In November, 1964, a recently widowed, uneducated Greek immigrant woman came to Cape Cod in pursuit of a small business in which she could engage and keep her family together. After looking at many different properties with her youngest son, Tom, she fell in love with an old lodging house situated on Nantucket Sound. Family and friends were astounded that this little Greek woman was so unequivocally definitive about her decision to purchase and operate a lodging house; however, she was determined to keep her family together and believed in her heart she could do this, and did.
This lady was our mother, Ms. Efthalia N. Kossifos; and on this day, a Greek family tradition of hospitality and service dating back to mid-1700’s was reborn here on the shores of Cape Cod, and is celebrating its’ 50th year. Today, the tradition of service continues. We, Helen N. Kossifos and Dino N. Kossifos, are proud heirs of ‘By The Sea’ Guests.
